Year-End Blog Post

I think that this year has probably been the most fun, most entertaining and definetly my most improved year ever. I started off in december barely even being able to run a few minutes without stopping. I would start to feel a little tired and then I would completely stop and walk the rest of the way. I always thought that my body could go no longer. I always wondered how those long distance runners could run such a long way without stopping. Then I learnt about pacing. By keeping the same pace the whole time, you are able to run a really long time without stopping. In the last 30 minute run, I ran 30 minutes without stopping. Each of my laps were around 5 minutes each.

In the beginning of the year I started off thinking that my body could only go to a certain point and I would need to stop but I learnt that my body can do a lot more than what I expect. My heart rate can go all the way to 205 beats per minute after a workout. This made me more determined to work towards keeping a good pace and working my hardest until I'm about to puke. My first beeptest score was 6,2 but my highest beep test score was 8,5. I also learnt how to measure my heart rate after a workout.

I think I've also improved in perticipation. I always try my hardest at any sport and I always try to give suggestions on how to make a game or activity better. I've really tried to engage myself in all activities. Some activities led me to getting poison all over my arm.  I've learnt leadership skills that have helped me encourage my friends and other people in the class to work hard and with effort. I've really loved gym and all the people in our class are really nice and helpful which I think has definetly helped me improve my motivation for fitness.

Other fitness activities that I like are yoga, the partner a partner b, relays (even though it was so exhausting and I felt like fainting), and the community run. I actually really enjoy fitness. It gets me pumped and after every fitness activity, I feel good about what I've done and what I've achieved. It makes me want to go even further and improve what I did before. I now work out outside of school. I run and do yoga with my mom which gives us bonding time as well. I also like playing soccer and basketball with my little brother and my dad. One of my favourite things to do is go mountain biking with my dad. It gets me pumped.

Something that I think has helped me a lot is my change in nutrition. I now eat more vegetables and fruits and now I eat healthier carbs and calories that are good for my body, I still spoil myself here and there but it has definetly decreased from before. I love eating tacos with lots of vegetables or California rolls.

Poison on my arm after playing hide and seek.

Beep Test

This week in fitness we did the beep test, unfortunetly I was sooo sick. I felt like puking both before and after but I still wanted to do the beep test to prove myself that I wasn't really feeling that bad. I ran a 7 but I know I could have done better. I was feeling pretty dizzy and sick afterwards. I checked my pulse after running and it was at 195 b/min. My highest on the beep test has been 8 ,5 but I still tried my best even though I was sick. I'm still pretty proud of myself for even doing it.   I also learnt how to take my pulse. First you lover your pulse then use a clock to figure out how many brats there are in a minute. Then 2 mins later do the same thing to figure out your recovery and how fast it takes your body to recover.

30 minute run

Last week we did the 30 minute run and we learned about pacing ourselfs and how it can benefit us in the long run. I decided to do a lap every 5 minutes and keep all my laps 10-15 seconds within eachother. At first I thought that I wouldn't be able to do this and run the whole 30 minutes but I ended up running the whole entire time no stop. I was really proud of myself and I felt great. I didn't even get that tired. I learnt that if you keep the same pace the whole time, you can run nonstop. Your body adapts to the pace and it feels quite comfortable and easy to achieve. I ran alongside my friend, Lyba, who kept cheering me on to keep going and so did I. I told her that it was almost over and that we only had a few minutes to go.
